you've got a friend in me

I absolutely hate seeing the people I love feeling a down. My best friend is just that so I have put together a little 'pick me up' present for her.

Brecon, Wales

This weekend I went to Wales to visit my friend Sara. I met Sara in Australia on a tour between Adelaide and Darwin. I have never been to Wales before and I was really looking forward to my trip. It was lovely to see Sara again and I got to meet her boyfriend and friends, it was lovely. The scenery was beautiful and I loved all the old buildings.
I travelled on a Friday and arrived late afternoon. We decided to have a night to chill out. We cooked dinner and watched Due Date. We spent most of the evening talking about Australia and our plans for future travels.
On Saturday Sara took me to see some sites in her local area, including the Brecon Beacons. The scenery is so pretty; nothing like I get at home. I am slightly jealous that she has such picturesque views just outside her door.

After our day of sight seeing we had lunch with a glass of wine whilst watching Little Fockers. Like any other time when I drink alcohol during the day, I was in need of a nap. We later went for a night out in Brecon. We went for dinner and many drinks in The Red Dragon where I got to meet Sara's boyfriend and friends. It was a really lovely night. We then went for a night out to Harvey's. It's not a club, but then it's not a bar; it's something in between. The night involved cowboy hats and ended with chips; a good night indeed!

when life gives you lemons

I made homemade lemonade for Easter. As it was a busy day I didn't have the time to take pictures, so I made it again today.
You need 3 or 4 lemons.
You will need a cup of caster sugar. The first time I made this lemonade I used golden caster sugar but either will be fine.
Squeeze the juice out of the lemons. At this point I didn't worry about the pips coming out because I put the lemon juice though a sieve.
To make the sugar syrup you need to put the caster sugar in to a pan. You need to put the same amount of water in to the pan as well, so use the same cup. Heat the sugar and water together until the sugar has gone. The water will be a clear but cloudy colour.
Put the sugar water in to a jug and sieve the lemon juice in to get rid of the pips and pulp. Top the jug up with water or to desired strength.
Put the jug in to the fridge or freezer for at least 30 minutes so it is nicely chilled. Serve over ice and enjoy. ♥

Eindhoven, Holland

I went to visit my friend in Germany for a long weekend. We decided to hop over the border to Holland for Saturday and Sunday. It only took a few hours to get in to a whole other country. I love that Europe is so small and easy to get to. The weekend that we went to Holland was actually Queen's Day. I wasn't sure what Queen's Day was, all I knew is that there was going to be many street parties and a lot of alcohol involved. I really loved my time in Holland and would like to go back some time.

It was a fabulous weekend and one I will remember.

Hagen, Germany

My best friend Cathy moved to Germany in August 2010 for a year. With me going to Australia, then having no job and no money, I have only been able to book a ticket to see her. She is a student and, as part of her course, she moved to Dusseldorf to teach English to students in a German school.
It was a very early start for me and our friend Jess; and also my dad, bless him, who took us to the airport. We met Cathy at the arrivals gate and had huge amounts of hugs, it was lovely to see her again. When we arrived in Hagen, we dropped our bags off and went for a look around the town. There were some adorable little shops. They had lots of vintage and kitch inspired items that I wish I could of bought. There was also lots of shops that sold pretty stationary which I loved.
In the evening we went to a Mexican Restaurant and we got to meet Cathy's boyfriend. The restaurant sold huge cocktails and some I'd never tasted so that was really nice. I drank so much - and I managed to get a lot of the cocktails on my cardigain.

On Saturday and Sunday we went to Holland for Queen's Day - I will do another post on this. When we arrived back we basically chilled. It was such a lovely weekend and so good to see my friend again. :)
